Duplin County Release Types
The correct Duplin County released-inmate lookup depends on the exit category. A bond amount on a booking record does not show that bond was posted. A dismissal in court may explain why the basis for detention ended, but only the jail transaction establishes the exit time. Likewise, a state admission near the county release time points to transfer rather than a return home. Read the exact label and compare it with the next agency record.

Can “inactive” mean fully discharged? Not by itself. An inactive prison entry can appear beside active probation, parole, or post-release supervision. Review both incarceration and supervision histories before saying the sentence has ended.

No booking photo appeared in the release result examined during research. That does not prove the county has no booking image. It means an image should be requested by booking number and date rather than promised through the live release view. The county also did not publish an exact archive period or underlying retention schedule for these records.

North Carolina G.S. 132-1 broadly defines public records, and G.S. 132-6 addresses inspection and copies subject to other law. Those statutes support a request for an existing Duplin jail release record. They do not make every item public. G.S. 132-1.4 distinguishes criminal investigation and intelligence records from information the law makes public. Juvenile, victim, medical, security, sealed, expunged, and protected investigative material can require different treatment.
Expunction changes access to the court and related public record. Eligibility depends on the charge, case result, prior history, waiting period, and the governing statute. A bond release means the jail ended confinement under court conditions while the criminal case continues. It does not mean the charge was dismissed, the person was acquitted, or every other hold disappeared. Confirm the court order and the actual jail exit separately.
The Duplin court record may show a bond order, dismissal, probation judgment, confinement credit, or sentence. Administrative release work and other valid holds can delay departure after a courtroom decision. Search other cases and commitments before treating the court result as a completed release. If detention reports that another agency assumed custody, follow that agency's record. For durable proof, request the executed release entry with its timestamp and disposition.
Does a bond amount prove release? No. It shows a term in the booking or court record. The release type, court entry, and jail transaction show whether custody actually ended.
Search Duplin County Released Inmates

The county jail's current view is not a historical release index. A name may vanish before another agency updates. A court order may precede jail processing. Duplin County 24-Hour Release Gap
Duplin County's official inmate-search instructions state that a released-inmate search covers the previous 24 hours. Yet the linked live Citizen Connect deployment showed current and admit navigation, with no public Releases tab, when the research was verified. That mismatch must shape the search. It is not safe to treat the current roster as a release list or to claim that no record exists because the release control is absent.
The county did not publish a verified 72-hour window, an exact refresh schedule, or a public archive rule. The practical fallback is detention for present operational status, SAVAN for a custody change, the court record for legal disposition, DAC for a transfer or state release, and a county request for the actual transaction. NC DAC's Criminal Offender Searches gateway is the main statewide route when a person entered North Carolina prison or community supervision. OPI accepts combinations of surname, given name, gender, race, birth date or age, and offender number. Use the least ambiguous set available. Then open the matching detail and examine incarceration, offense and sentence, release, location, and supervision sections. The headline status alone can hide an active supervision entry.

DAC Release Search reports actual release dates and types within selected filters. OPI can also display a projected date, but that is a current sentence calculation, not proof that release occurred. Court changes, sentence structure, jail credit, earned-time decisions, infractions, detainers, and recalculation can alter it. Capture the date checked, then confirm the later actual-release transaction and any supervision status.

Duplin County Release Court Cross-Check
Duplin County moved to North Carolina eCourts on February 3, 2025. That gives many recent cases an online route after the jail's short public display has passed. Search the eCourts portal for the case number, defendant, charge, hearing events, disposition, judgment, sentence, confinement credit, probation, and dismissal entries. A case outcome can explain the authority for release, but it does not replace the jail's exact departure time.
Migration and access limits can leave older or incomplete details outside the online result. The Duplin County Clerk of Superior Court can provide public-terminal and copy access under Judicial Branch procedures. The courthouse is at 112 Duplin Street in Kenansville, not the detention center's West Hill Street address. Its published hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., subject to holidays and official changes, and its telephone is 910-275-7000.
Use the booking number and case number together when asking the jail and Clerk to reconcile records. If the court case ended but no release record appears, check other cases, warrants, commitments, probation holds, and transfers through their proper official channels. Do not announce release from a court result alone.

That broad coverage is valuable when Duplin's live release view is unavailable. Search the exact person, compare identifying details and the supplying agency, then read the event word precisely. “Released” reports that the named agency ended its custody. “Transferred” reports movement and may mean confinement continues.
A county-to-state transfer can require the user to register again against the receiving custody record. Open the new matching record, select the notification channels offered, and complete the confirmation or four-digit telephone PIN prompt. Save the alert time and check the underlying jail or DAC record. SAVAN is a timely cross-check and notification tool, not a certified release document, and DAC advises against relying on one alert service alone.
Note: Active probation, parole, or post-release supervision is community supervision, not continued physical custody.
Duplin Federal and Immigration Releases
A federal or immigration release should not be forced into the Duplin jail or NC DAC search. The BOP Inmate Locator searches federal imprisonment records by name or federal register identifier. A past release date with no current BOP institution can support that federal imprisonment ended, but BOP warns that historic dates and custody labels have limits. Confirm precise questions with BOP or the sentencing federal court.
Federal pretrial detainees may be held for the U.S. Marshals outside Duplin County. USMS has no matching public historical released-person locator, so use the federal docket, counsel, or relevant district contact. For immigration detention, ICE ODLS uses an A-number and country of birth or biographical details. ICE states that released people remain searchable for 60 days. A “not found” result can also reflect protected data, the time window, a juvenile record, or mismatched identity.
No Duplin-specific ICE detention contract or facility was verified. A local release that notes an immigration detainer or receiving agency may be a transfer to ICE, not community release. Follow the documented custodian without inferring an agreement that the official sources did not establish.
Duplin County Facility Release Confusion
Only the Duplin County Detention Center was verified as the operating county detention facility for this project. It is run by the Sheriff's Office at 112 West Hill Street, Kenansville, NC 28349. The detention telephone is 910-296-2324. A person may leave that facility under bond, court, or sentence authority, or may transfer to another custodian. Ask for the release time, release type, and receiving agency to tell those outcomes apart.
The similar name Duplin Correctional Center refers to a former state prison in Maury that closed in 2013. It must not be treated as a live release source. County archive documents also discuss a 236-bed detention project, but the research did not verify its opening or current use.
